Yooka-Laylee
a take on the classic 3D platformer
2023-12-26
Today's game is Yooka-Laylee on the Switch. It's a 3D platformer trying to be similar to Banjo-Kazooie on the N64. The gameplay is similar, you control two characters with one on the other, the name Yooka-Laylee a reference to ukelele a reference to Banjo. In the game there's something called the Novelizer 64, a reference to the N64. But thankfully it doesn't try to have the same lower quality graphics as the N64.
It's a fun platformer where you find secrets, try to collect things, which let you unlock moves to let you explore more. Levels have mini games like races, and you can find arcade games to play. You can also play co-op, or local multiplayer for some arcade games.
This one is really fun and I suggest you pick it up if you like 3D platformers from the N64 era, especially since it seems to be on discount on Switch and Steam.
Here's a neat history on Yahoo Pipes, an early project envisioning what we could have done with the internet.
My wife got me a book called Core Memory. It's basically a book of pictures of old comptures from the Computer History Museum. I didn't make it out there when I was in California but do plan to go back.
