Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair

same world, different gameplay

2023-12-27

Today's game is Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, I got it on sale for the Switch. It's the same characters and world and style, except it's mainly a 2D sidescroll platformer, with a top view platformer overworld.

There's a lot to collect, and secrets to find, so I would say this isn't so much a sequel as it is its own game. Like the last one how it's a good N64 style game, I see this one as similar to a Sega sidescrolling platformer. However now that I think about it, Sega platformers seemed very large like you can go all over up and down and left and right. This game feels like it wants you to go through the level very fast even though there's no limit, but I just want to roll and smash through things quick. There's really only one way through a level, except for the occasional secret, so no reason to take time and explore another direction.

Pretty good if you like sidescroller platformer especially if on sale.

I also got Watch Dogs 2 for Xbox. This is another of my favorite games. It's basically Grand Theft Auto but with copmputer hacking. It's an openworld game where you can run around with guns. But the game really opens up to you by hacking the world around you. Using security cameras to scout areas, hack someones phone to distract and sneak by, use remote control jumper car or drone to access areas you otherwise can't. You can go guns blazing all the time if you want, but the hacking sneaking route is usually the easiest way to get through the game.

This game has characters and a story that's interesting. It's different than the previous game where the protagonist was just a brooding loner.
