T Puzzle

a simple puzzle you can make

a wooden puzzle of four Ts that fit in a wooden frame

I once got this double pack of two puzzles, a 3d "puzzle" puzzle, and a "T" puzzle.

The T puzzle has four T pieces, and you have to fit them all so they lay flat without overlapping in a frame. And each side has a frame, one is a little larger so is easier, the other side is smaller so harder.

I was looking for a project with the laser cutter that was simple, and I had misplaced this puzzle so decided to recreate. This is the first thing I designed to be laser cut, I'm happy with how it came out.

Here is the file I made to laser cut it. There are the four T pieces, the two different size frames you have to try to put them in, and a base you glue the frames to.

Be sure to glue frames to opposite sides, and not for instance both to one side of the frame.

I only cut this out of wood, it may cut differently with acrylic and I imagine won't be as easy to glue.

Spoiler, it's setup as the solution to the harder puzzle. That's because it has to be more compact to fit in the harder puzzle.

Also, since the Ts are more compact, they are placed next to each other. But the way I made the file, the edges where the Ts touch are just stacked so they're doubled up. This means a bunch of places on the Ts, the laser goes over again.

It prints just fine. In fact, it shaves off a little bit more from the edge of the T so it makes a bit more tolerance and it's easier put the puzzle together, and as far as I could tell it doesn't make it so you can cheat the puzzle. I also found if you don't run over the edges these extra few times, the Ts are so tight that they don't fit in the puzzle. If someone wants to try to remake the puzzle so the one cutting it out isn't shown a solution, I'd like to see what you come up with.
